Dana's Dolls
In August 2004, Dana Burton came to South Africa to present doll making workshops. Before this, I had only made and dressed one doll, the Santa doll in Sharon's Christmas roombox. There it was easy enough to hide the flaws underneath layers of clothes and hair!
I took Dana's workshop in Cape Town, and we made this doll. I made her arms a bit too short, but at least she has a beautiful dress! It was a wonderful experience, but my doll ended up in an empty ice cream tub on the shelf, because I was scared of doing the wigging. Until a year later.........

In August 2005, Dana arrived for another workshop. This time she wanted to teach us the secrets of draping fabric on a doll. The annual Cape Town Miniaturia Guild Fair was around the corner, and I decided that it was now or never. Both dolls would be wigged before the 3rd of September. In the end the wigging turned out fine, but I'm not putting any mini doll makers out of business yet! :-)
I posed the doll on a chair made by Heather in Australia (formerly Heatherbee Miniatures), which was a gift when she visited me in 2003. I didn't know what to do with the doll's hands, so I gave her a bunch of roses to hold. It turned her into a real beauty queen with attitude. I received the roses in a swap from Paula in New Zealand.

At the 2005 workshop in Cape Town, Dana handed each of us a piece of floral fabric, and challenged us to use it on an old lady doll, or anything else. Read about this project on the Cat Lady page.
