Roomboxes
I love miniatures, but it took me a while to realise that I'm not a dollshouse person. I prefer roomboxes, for many reasons. When you build and decorate a dollshouse, you don't have as much freedom to make all kinds of unrelated scenes. You have to stick to a specific period or decorating style. When making roomboxes, you can make a fairy scene, a wine cellar, a 50's sitting room, a Victorian kitchen, or anything your heart desires. Something that is not possible when you have to decorate one dollshouse.
Room sizes are just too small in dollshouses. Roomboxes allow you the freedom to make the rooms bigger, add different floor levels, different angles, and an outside scene through a window.
I know there are many people who love dollshouses, and I have seen wonderful works of art. While I can appreciate the work, and I really love looking at a well decorated dollshouse, its just not for me. I don't think I have the patience to work on one project for such a long time. My mind is like a ping-pong ball; I keep coming up with new projects.
