Bathroom
I bought these Bodo Hennig bathroom pieces many years ago. It was expensive, even back then, so I bought a piece every time I had a little spare money. Back then I was still planning to build a dollshouse, so it sat in a box for many years. Originally I had matching wallpaper in pastel pink and green. By the time I was designing and building the roombox, I had the urge to have dark burgundy walls instead. This roombox was very difficult to photograph, maybe because of the contrast between the dark walls and the white accessories.
I made the roombox with a private courtyard to the right. Everyone seems to be worried about the lack of privacy in this bathroom! Don't worry, the courtyard has very high walls! The garden scene was built on a separate piece, that can be removed through the roof of the roombox (its hinged).
The curtains were made using white lace. I gave the window next to the loo a textured finish, by dabbing craft glue on it with my finger. It dried clear, and the result looked like a traditional bathroom window. Thanks Heather for that tip!
I made the toilet roll holder and the towel holder against the back wall, and did some folk painting on it. The built-in, mirrored shelves at the back are lit from above. Most of the bottles and potions were made using beads and jewellery findings, and others were made by Elana Ross.

I bought the white wire shelving unit, but lined the wobbly shelves with thin card, covered with paper and edged with lace. The dustbin is a cooldrink cap, covered with paper. The pink towels on the shelf, was made from babygro fabric. I couldn't find the right shade of green in thin toweling, so I unraveled a green washcloth to get the texture in scale. The green towel against the back wall was also made using this method. (See tutorials). The pink shower cap hanging on the shelving unit, was made using very cheap baby's waterproof pants. (Shop at Peppies for various colours. The thin, drapeable plastic will make good shower curtains too).
I made the hinged laundry bin in a wicker workshop with Mike Cox. It still needs a little dirty washing peeking out from underneath the lid. The cat on the rug has discovered a toilet paper roll, which is giving him great pleasure. The grey cat on the chair is getting ready to get in on the action. Another little kitty in the plant pot, finds that destroying plants is much more interesting than chasing toilet paper rolls. The plant with the kitten is by Pam Jones. I made the braided rug with 100% wool.
