Micro-mini Wine Cellar
After making my 1/12th scale wine cellar roombox, lenora Smith of the Microminis group on Yahoo, asked me to do a 1/144 scale version for a group project. I've been thinking of doing that, so it was an excellent opportunity to get myself into gear!
The scene measures 36 mm Wide, 28 mm High, and 20 mm Deep. (1 3/8" Wide, 1 1/8" High, and 13/16" Deep).
The basic shape, as well as the staircase were made with matt board. I've used Polyfilla (a cellulose filler) mixed with wood glue to make the stones against the walls. I washed it with several shades of diluted water paints.

The wine racks against the back wall was made with diamond mesh, with tiny accent beads glued to the openings to resemble the bottle heads. The wine barrels are "tiny turnings" that I cut down and reshaped a bit. The barrel support was made with Paperwood. The (very rustic!) floor tiles were made with textured paper that I cut into little squares, glued to the floor and colour washed.
The shelves inside the alcove in the left hand wall, was made with Paperwood. The bottles are carved toothpicks.
The outside of the box was covered with the same textured paper. I glued a piece of clear plastic to the top, to let some light into the staircase area as well as the front of the scene. I framed the front to conceal the edges of the box, and added tiny wooden beads to the bottom of the box to elevate it a bit.

Other versions of the project
After I wrote the tutorial for the Micro Minis group, a few of the members made the project. It is amazing how everyone added their own special touch, after having started out with the same basic instructions. Polyfilla is not available in the US, so they had to think of other methods to make the stones against the inside walls. I think that, in true miniaturist fashion, they did an excellent job improvising! It is very satisfying for me to see the completed projects.
