Sharon's Christmas Roombox
I made this Christmas roombox for my friend Sharon in Colorado, USA. The idea started out as a little wallhanging vignette, but soon snowballed into something much bigger. She wanted a house for the Santa that I made for her a few years ago. Well, to Sharon big is good, and bigger is even better! :-) I actually started this project about 3 years ago, but real life and other projects kept getting in the way. Sharon and Scott visited us here in South Africa during September and October 2004. I completed the box just in time for them to take it back with them on the plane. Pity I didn't take pictures of them on the airport with their stash, it was HUGE!
The box has a central part, with a fireplace against the back wall. There are shelves on both sides of the fireplace, where Sharon can display her miniature Christmas collection. The garland around the inside door on the left, has working Christmas lights, the Christmas tree as well.
To the left of the box is an outside door with an entrance hall. I have made a roller blind for the door. Santa's jacket is hanging on a hook in the entrance hall. Oops! The masking tape inside the door doesn't belong there, it was just stuck down for the trip back to the US.

The box from the front, showing the fireplace and shelves. The floor isn't visible, but I made it from wood veneer strips, polished to a high gloss.
The inside door on the right leads to another little passage with a faux door to the left, and a window in the side wall. Behind the partition walls in the passage and entrance hall, are room for the transformers. One for the flickering lights (tree lights, fire and candles), and the other one for the concealed ceiling lights and the wreath.
This is Santa, waiting patiently for his home to be furnished, so that he can go sit in front of the fire. He is already getting undressed. I made the doll with Fimo, using Sculpey push molds.
Now I'm just waiting for Sharon to send me a picture of the furnished and decorated box.
Yoohooo!! Sharon!!.........
