Shadow Boxes
I am all kinds of sentimental, so I don't throw out stuff! Its a curse and a blessing, as I love anything old, especially if it belonged to someone I knew.
When my grandmother passed away a few years ago, I took some of her stuff that isn't necessarily valuable, but to me it was. Instead of it filling up boxes and drawers, I decided to make memory boxes so that I can see it every day.

Pardon the masking tape on the frame. I wanted to take a picture before adding the glass, and the frame kept slipping.
I bought this frame on a sale long ago. I made the box to go at the back of the frame, and glued a layer of foamcore inside the box. I painted the sides black, and glued a layer of black velvet on the foamcore. The foamcore makes it possible to pin objects to the back, especially heavier items like jewellery.
The perfume bottle and matching box bottom left belonged to my paternal grandmother, who passed away when I was about 10. The lace handkerchief at the top also belonged to her.
All the other items belonged to my other grandmother. The lipstick with a lovely metal casing, the 50's style glasses, the jewellery and an old post card.

When we went to clean my grandmother's house after she passed away, I unpacked the medicine cabinet in the bathroom. Everyone wanted to dump everything, but I was so excited. It was like a museum. Old tins and bottles from way back. I took everything, cleaned it and made 2 shadow boxes. The date on the vitamin syrup bottle was 1964! I was 3 years old then. :-)
